USE OF SCISSOR LIFT OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY INSTRUCTION

USE OF SCISSOR LIFT OCCUPATIONAL SAFETY INSTRUCTION

Scissor lifts are used in open air, sound and light systems applications, exterior applications and cleaning, steel structure applications, storage areas use, workshop and factory use, aviation, shipyard, refinery and many different areas because they are safe and convenient. In all these applications, a simple ladder or scaffolding sometimes works, but workers often need a safe and stable platform to complete their tasks. While scissor lifts are undeniably one of the safest ways to work on projects at height, there are many potential hazards associated with misuse. For this reason, the following instructions have been prepared in order to determine how to use scissor lifts safely and to implement it correctly;

1. Personnel who are not authorized to use and do not have a certificate or operator training certificate are prohibited from using and working on scissor lifts.

2. It is forbidden to work with a scissor platform for personnel whose health report does not contain the phrase "Can Work at Height" signed by the workplace physician.

3. Personnel who have not received "Safe Working at Height" training are prohibited from working with scissor lifts.

4. “Occupational Safety Instruction for the Use of Scissor Lift Platform” must be read and signed by all authorized personnel.

5. The "Scissor Lift Daily Check Form" must be filled in by the operator before the work every working day, and the scissor platform that has any malfunctions after the checks (mechanical problems, products that do not work correctly, hydraulic leakage, unusable wheels, etc.) should not be used and it must be taken out of use. should be reported to the authority.

6. Electronic sensors (angle sensor, tilt sensor, pressure sensor, inductive sensors) on the scissor platform should never be disabled. If it needs to be changed, the same sensors should be replaced by the authorized service and the vehicle should be put into use by making calibrations.

7. The area where the scissor platform will be used should be checked and it should not be used on soft, uneven or unstable surfaces and places where there is a risk of the platform crashing at heights.

8. When using the scissor platform, sudden movements should not be made and sharp maneuvers should be avoided.

9. The scissor lift should always be used forwards from the front and backward motion should only be used when manoeuvring.

10. The scissor lift must not be used for any activity other than its intended use, such as pulling, pushing or dragging any other machine.

11. Do not contact the batteries and other electrical components directly with water and never wash them with a pressure washer.

12. Do not carry materials (panels, cardboard boxes, etc.) in sizes that will increase the wind load by creating a surface area in the basket of your scissor lift.

13. Do not use your vehicle in weather conditions where the wind speed is more than 12.5 m/s.

14. Do not work against the risk of lightning, as your scissor platform working at height will act as a lightning rod in stormy weather.

15. Do not sit, lean or climb on the scissor platform guardrails.

16. Hold the guardrails while the scissor lift is rising and descending.

17. Make sure that the basket entrance door is assembled correctly and that it functions properly.

18. Do not use the scissor platform without checking that the folding guardrails are locked and the extension platform is solid and locked.

19. Do not forget to leave the safety distance to the lines when working close to the power lines.

  • Avoid contact with voltage between 0-300 Volts,
  • Leave at least 3 m of safety distance between 300 Volt-50 kilo Volt voltage.

20. If the area where you will work with your scissor lift is under the high voltage line and at close distances, start working after the electricity supply in the lines is completely cut off and grounding is checked.

21. Do not work in temperatures where the ambient temperature is higher than 45 oC and lower than -15 oC.

22. Never work in explosive areas.

23. Do not load more than the maximum loading capacity. Payload is reported in the User's Manual according to the models.

24. Do not use your scissor lift in places where the lighting is not sufficient and when the weather is dark, unless the work area is illuminated.

25. Be careful about the possibility of contact with other fixed or mobile vehicles and materials.

26. Clean all kinds of lubricant factors (oil, water, snow, ice, etc.) on the platform and platform exit ladder.

27. Remember the 3-point contact rule when using the platform ladder. (two hands one foot, two feet one hand contact)

28. Do not climb or get off the platform until the scissor platform is completely lowered and not in the closed position.

29. Before lowering the scissor lift platform, the vehicle environment should be checked to see if there are any personnel or obstacles.

30. Holes, bumps, debris, etc. in the work area. Do not approach more than 1 meter by predetermining the dangerous areas. If possible, pull the safety strip before starting work.

31. The load on the platform must be placed in a balanced way so as not to disturb the center of gravity of the vehicle.

32. Ladders, scaffolding and similar equipment should not rely on the scissor platform, nor should it connect the platform to adjacent structures.

33. While working on the scissor platform, helmet and safety belt in accordance with the standards should be used for your safety. In addition, the necessary safety equipment and personal protective materials should be used according to the purpose of use of the scissor lift.

34. Always be cautious by keeping your body inside the platform while working out.

35. Keep hands away from the scissors when the scissor lift is rising or lowering.

36. Attention should be paid to the braking distances of 3 m at high speed and 1 m at low speed.

37. It is recommended to use wedges under the wheels if the work is to be carried out only by raising it at a fixed point with the scissor platform.

38. Explosion, burning, …etc. Work glasses and work gloves should be used against risks such as

39. Due to the chemical reaction occurring during the charging of the batteries and the risk of explosion due to the resulting gas, necessary precautions should be taken and charging should be carried out in well-ventilated environments.

40. Check the electrolyte levels of the batteries every 2-3 charges.

41. When the batteries need to be replaced, they should be replaced with batteries of the same characteristics and weight as the currently used batteries. Batteries play an important role in the stability of the vehicle by being used as a counterweight. It is one of the important factors in the overturning moment calculations.

42. When disconnecting the cables from the battery, first the negative (-) pole and then the positive (+) pole must be removed. When connecting the cables, first the positive (+) pole and then the negative (-) pole should be connected.

43. Make sure that the scissor lift is inspected periodically at least once a year, and never start working with your vehicle without performing the checks specified in the Daily Control Form.

I have completely read the "Occupational Safety Instruction for the Use of Scissors", which consists of 43 articles on 4 pages in total. I received and understood the training on occupational safety. I will do exactly what is necessary in my work and related issues and I will comply with all the rules that must be followed. If there is a situation beyond my authority, I will immediately apply to my superior, the official of the job or the institution I work for. I declare that I will strictly abide by the occupational safety rules and instructions by fully reading and understanding this instruction report.
